Henry Ford Maplegrove Center is the premier chemical dependency treatment facility in the Detroit metropolitan area. Our experienced team of addiction specialists treats problems associated with drugs, alcohol, gambling and other addiction issues. Meet the Maplegrove team.

Outpatient Therapy

Treatment for substance-use disorder while you stay at home

We may recommend outpatient treatment for adult or teen patients as a first step in addiction treatment. In outpatient care, patients work through personal treatment plans without having to stay in an overnight facility.

Outpatient care also is the next step in care for patients who are successful in more intensive treatment, such as our Intensive Outpatient Program, which also is out of the hospital but incorporates more structured group therapy.

You may be a good candidate for outpatient treatment if you:

  • Aren’t currently being treated for additional behavioral health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder
  • Currently use relatively low amounts of addictive substances
  • Have a stable, supportive home environment
  • Have few or no additional medical conditions that require treatment

What to expect from outpatient treatment

Outpatient Addiction TreatmentTreatment starts with a thorough assessment, which includes both a physical exam and a psychosocial exam. Next, our addiction team will work with you and your loved ones to create a personalized plan for treatment and recovery.

You’ll attend weekly group counseling and/or individual therapy, depending on your specific needs. And you’ll consult with one of our doctors as issues arise relating to your recovery.

Your care plan may include detoxification and medication-assisted treatment if needed.

Outpatient addiction care is available at:

After the initial treatment phase, we encourage you to continue the recovery process by taking advantage of community education and support resources for addiction. This includes our own programs and those offered by various 12-step organizations.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment

A six-week program to treat substance-use disorder

In our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) you receive structured, supportive treatment for addiction (substance-use disorder) in a group setting while staying at home with your loved ones. This program is the second-highest level of care our team offers for adults and the highest level available for our teen patients.

All of our patients first receive a thorough assessment. This assessment, which includes both a physical exam and a psychosocial exam, helps us create personalized treatment plans.

You may be a good candidate if your substance-use disorder is relatively stable but you need additional support and structure. You may step up to the Intensive Outpatient Program if you’ve previously tried addressing addiction on an outpatient basis without success.

What to expect from the Intensive Outpatient Program

Intensive Outpatient ProgramThe Intensive Outpatient Program includes three treatment sessions per week for six weeks. Each session lasts three hours for a total of nine hours of treatment each week. Teen patients’ sessions are in the afternoons, while adult patients meet in the evenings. We schedule individual and family sessions separately as needed.

In addition to therapy, your treatment plan may include detoxification or medication-assisted treatment.

If you’re successful in the Intensive Outpatient Program, you’ll step down to our outpatient addiction treatment program for additional care. Adult patients who need more intensive support may need to step up to our 24-hour, residential (inpatient) treatment program.

Intensive Outpatient Programs are available at:

Residential Treatment

High-intensity care for substance-use disorder

Residential (inpatient) treatment involves structured, supportive care for addiction (substance-use disorder) while you stay in our comfortable residential facility. Our addition team provides this level of care at Henry Ford Maplegrove Center and Henry Ford Henry Ford Allegiance Addiction Recovery Center.

If you need a same-day assessment, call us:

Who is a good candidate for residential addiction treatment?

You may need residential care for addiction if lower levels of treatment, such as outpatient addiction treatment or our Intensive Outpatient Program, haven’t worked for you.

In addition, we may recommend inpatient addiction treatment if you:

  • Are unable to stop using addictive substances on your own
  • Currently use high amounts of addictive substances and may require medical supervision to detox safely
  • Don’t have a support system or home environment that can help your recovery
  • Have additional medical conditions that need to be monitored, such as high blood pressure
  • Are currently being treated for additional behavioral health disorders, such as depression

We offer residential care to adult patients only. Teens with substance-use disorders take part in our outpatient treatment programs. Learn more about addiction care for teens.
