Practice Areas
Criminal charges threaten many aspects of your life besides your freedom. These include your future job prospects, personal relationships, and ability to travel outside the United States. Whether you come to me with a first-time DUI charge or multiple violent felony charges, I fight for your freedom. Some charges, such as sex crimes or domestic violence, have an added stigma. I will treat you with the respect and dignity you deserve. We handle a variety of areas, including:
Family Law
I have been practicing family law for more than 25 years. Nothing is more pleasurable than resolving a family dispute to a win-win position. Most individuals believe that a divorce will never happen to them and they are unprepared on how to deal with this sudden problem. With more than 25 years of legal experience at Gani Law Firm, we have an advantage by knowing most of the attorneys in town, understanding our judges’ philosophies, clerks, people at the Friend of the Court, and other important parties involved in your case. Whether you recently split from your spouse of ten years because you discovered evidence of an affair, or you have been struggling with an ex-spouse over the parenting of your child, or spousal support, I can help you.
In Michigan, if you do not have children and you want to file for divorce, you can finalize your divorce in as little as 60 days. If you do have children, the statute requires you wait at least six months.
Michigan is a no-fault divorce state. This means you do not need to prove a reason or fault to obtain a divorce. You only need to show the marriage broke down and that there is “no reasonable likelihood that the marriage can be preserved.” While it’s possible to settle your divorce case, some cases require Court involvement.
For more than 25 years at the Gani Law Firm, I have fought hard for my clients. I have successfully helped hundreds of defendants deal with criminal charges. My motto is the five P’s: Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. I provide straightforward counsel and tell the hard truth.
I will help you with almost any problem including:
Drug manufacturing
Possession of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamines or other drugs/delivery
Illegal use if prescription drugs
Drug trafficking
Sale or distribution of drugs
Traffic violations
Reckless driving/careless driving
Speeding tickets
Hit-and-run
Eluding a police officer
Driving While License Suspended
If you are charged with a crime, I have the experience and legal knowledge to help you. Call us today!
Drunk driving in Michigan is dangerous. State law defines drunk driving as operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 percent or more. I will help you with almost any problem including:
Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)
“Super drunk driving” (driving with a BAC of 0.17% or more)
Even if you’re a first-time offender, penalties can include:
A $500 fine plus Court costs
360 hours of mandatory community service
License suspension up to six months and driver responsibility fees
Up to 6 points on your driver’s license
93 days in jail
Repeat offenders face jail more time, more fines, and longer license suspension. If you drive under the influence of drugs, you can be charged under Michigan’s zero tolerance policy. If tests reveal that you have any illegal drugs in your system while you operated a vehicle, you can be charged even if you are not impaired.
If you are found responsible for a traffic violation, points can be added to your driving record and remain there for two years. It is important to fight tickets. Examples of Michigan’s point system for traffic violations are:
2 points for basic speeding
6 points for manslaughter, reckless driving, a BAC of 0.08 percent or more, refusing to take a chemical test, and fleeing a police officer
4 points for drag racing, going 16 miles per hour or more over the speed limit, or failing to yield to emergency vehicles
3 points for careless driving, disobeying a traffic signal, going 11 to 15 miles per hour over the speed limit, or failing to stop for a school bus
2 points for refusing to take a PBT
In addition to getting points on your license, you could also face increases in your auto insurance rates. This is a serious matter for students, truck drivers, and all drivers. I am prepared to fight your tickets so you can keep your driver’s license.
