The program at New Beginnings offers a full continuum of services designed to help consumers be productive members of the community. Services may include vocational assessment, skills training, job trials, job placement, job coaching, social skills training, medication management, and other life skills to assist in Recovery.
New Beginnings also provides Peer Specialist services and peer led classes, giving consumers the opportunity to take leadership roles and learn from someone who has shared experiences. This program is housed in Alamosa but works with consumers throughout the San Luis Valley.
New Beginnings is open from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
New Beginnings Wellness and Recovery Center offers a wide variety of services designed to help our members live richer and more rewarding lives. Our recovery trainings teach people how to better manage life’s challenges as well as the illness. Our wellness classes include healthy nutrition and exercise, stress reduction, improving self-esteem, making and keeping friends, and a variety of other topics meant to improve wellness in all areas of life.
Many of our classes and groups are created and led by members! As people progress in their own recovery they often want to give back to the New Beginnings community using their own talents and strengths. One member runs an art club, passing on her knowledge and expertise to others. Members have also started a bicycle repair club, where people use their mechanical skills to help others maintain mobility.
At New Beginnings you can receive support from a Peer Specialist, who is a person who lives with a mental health diagnosis and had been trained to support others in their recovery process. Our Peer Specialist also helps train those who would like to volunteer or pursue a paid position in this field.
When members decide to return to work or school, we help support their decision by walking through the process with them. We also help connect people with volunteer positions within the San Luis Valley communities.
