The penalty for OAR or OAS is up to one year in jail, $5,000 in fines, and a VVC contribution up to $250. In this jurisdiction, there is no specific requirement that DMV provides notice that your license is suspended. However in a recent court case, Loftus v. District of Columbia, No. 10-CT-620 (D.C. Cir. Sept. 13, 2012), the court stated that someone who truly has no idea and would have had no way of knowing his or her license was suspended MAY have a defense.
