The State of Alabama has 29 local Court Referral Programs, over 100 certified Court Referral Officers, called “CROs”. These are mandatory programs in certain cases, such as DUI or drug possession cases. Each of these programs is broken down to Level I, Level II, Level III and Juvenile Programs. A Court Referral Officer will determine the appropriate level for your individual situation.
Level 1 Program—Required to attend a minimum 12 hour presentation. This program is designed for those who do not have a substance abuse program.
Level 2 Program—Level 2 Program is for those who have been arrested previously on a second or subsequent DUI offense and the court has determined that they have a problem with alcohol or drugs.
Level 3 Treatment Program—Level 3 Program is for those who the Court has determined has a serious addiction program with alcohol and/or drugs. Once an assessment has been completed, it may be recommended to go to intensive outpatient program for treatment.
Juvenile Program—For those who have been arrested for underage drinking and driving who are 21 years of age or younger, may be required to take Juvenile Program DUI class.
