Mandatory Interlocks:
- Upon application for reinstatement of driving privileges, persons who are revoked with a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) of 0.15 or greater, who are revoked for two or more DUI / DWAI convictions, or who are revoked because they refused testing when requested by the arresting officer are required to have the interlock installed on each vehicle owned or driven and to hold an interlock restricted license for a minimum of two years.
Voluntary Interlocks:
- First time excess Blood Alcohol Content (BAC of .08 or above) or DUI offenders, 21 years or age and older at the time of the offense, may reinstate on the Interlock Program after one month of revocation, as long as they are otherwise eligible for driving privileges. If the reinstating driver had an offense BAC under 0.15 and drives problem free on the program for four consecutive months (e.g., no attempted drinking and driving and no attempted or actual circumvention episodes), then the DMV will notify the driver that they are eligible to apply for an unrestricted license.
- Colorado drivers whose licenses have been revoked for one year or longer due to one or more alcohol offenses may reinstate after serving one month of the revocation by providing an Interlock lease for each vehicle they have access to. All other reinstatement requirements including completion of or enrollment in Level II Education and Therapy must be met prior to reinstatement. Typically, the interlock restriction extends for the longer of two years or the period of time the driver would have been under revocation had the driver not reinstated early.
