If you are convicted of DUI/DWI, it will result in your license being suspended or revoked and your driving privileges will be taken away. Once the period of suspension or revocation is over, you will need to apply for a reinstatement of your license with the Department of Revenue.
Reinstating a license after a suspension of a year or revocation will also mean taking the driving tests again, which includes a vision test, knowledge test and a road test. Your license will remain suspended or revoked if you do not complete the reinstatement requirements.
In order to be considered for your driver’s license reinstatement, you must first complete the requirements of your Administrative suspension and/or DUI court conviction. You’ll also need to finish your driver’s license suspension/revocation period. Specific requirements will vary depending on your specific circumstances and you will need to:
- Pay reinstatement fee
- Submit proof of financial responsibility
- If you are being convicted it is mandatory for the court to order an ignition interlock device to be placed for breathalyzer tests on any vehicle you drive.
- Complete an alcohol/drug treatment, education, and evaluation program
- Pass any required Alabama Department of Public Safety (DPS) tests (may include both written and road tests)
